Description

Samarium hexaboride (SmB6) has attracted considerable interest as a Kondo insulator, in which strong hybridization between d- and f-electron states opens an energy gap near the Fermi level. Recent studies have identified this material as a correlated topological insulator that exhibits a low-temperature resistance plateau originating from surface conduction. In our work, we investigate the Hall effect and its angular dependence across different temperature regions in a SmB6 thin-film sample. In bulk SmB6, the Hall coefficient changes sign near 60–70 K and exhibits a peak around 100 K, commonly associated with f-electron skew scattering and the Kondo coherence temperature. In contrast, our thin-film measurements reveal a corresponding Hall peak near 20 K, suggesting that reduced dimensionality or substrate-induced strain may significantly influence Kondo hybridization. Furthermore, above 100 K, the Hall response becomes electron-like and exhibits an additional peak near 120 K, revealing an entirely unexplored transport regime. The angular dependence of the Hall resistance (Rxy) follows a sinusoidal nature below 50 K but becomes distinctly non-sinusoidal between 50 K and 120 K. This deviation suggests the emergence of a different transport mechanism in this unexplored region.
